Lift Consultants Reliability Investigation

One of our lift consultants was recently instructed to undertake a detailed inspection of the lift equipment with a view to understanding the high level of unreliability being experienced by the recently installed lifts.

This new Stadium was completed and opened to the public at the end 2011. Intended as a home for the Sales Sharks and the Salford City Reds Rugby League team the state of the art stadium provides a host of facilities for commercial sector and local community.

The stadium included five lifts all electric traction motor-room-less. Comprising two dedicated goods/passenger lifts and three public lifts serving from the main lobby up to catering, reception areas and boxes on upper levels.

The visiting lift consultant was asked to review all the lifts and to pay particular attention to the three public lifts which were experiencing the most problems, often breaking down on match days.

A comprehensive site survey included assessing the equipment as suitable for the environment, reviewing the performance of the lifts, assessing the lift demand, checking compliance against all applicable Codes and Standards and checking the levels of maintenance and adjustment being undertaken.

This was combined with a documentation review (operating and maintenance manuals, original lift specification, lift company’s tender, record drawings and a history of callouts and breakdowns.

Several problematic areas were identified and the report provided clear recommendations on how these areas should be dealt with. Expert assistance was given to the Main Contractor in his dealings with the lift contractor to identify a plan for resolving all the issues.
